If you add your identifier to the installation files, the drivers start installing and then freeze when installing the Samsung CDMA Modem, after which it does not work with OCTANS Downloader. In this regard, additional testing is required, all instructions mention the need to install this driver, at the same time, on all tested systems (WinXP, Vista, Win7) these drivers were not used and everything was fine. There is an idea that everyone who flashed the firmware with these drivers simultaneously installed ActiveSync, in this case the ActiveSync driver was used. Firmware for Vista (x32/x64) # 1. Connect the completely switched off phone to the computer and wait until the system installs the driver for it (by default, driver version 6.0 will be installed on a clean system). After installation, a new device Mobile device - Samsung MITs USB Sync will appear in the device manager. If the driver is not installed, and an unknown device GT-I8000 appears in the device manager, then install the driver update for WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) from the disk supplied with the phone, in this case driver 6.1 will be installed. In any case, I recommend installing it to avoid problems with synchronization in the future. 2. Disconnect the phone from the computer, do not turn it on 3. Launch OCTANS Downloader and select the files and settings necessary for flashing. The main problems with the firmware arise precisely at this stage, the following situations are possible: *** The inscription OnDeviceChange... appeared, but the "Start downoading" button is inactive, this means that most likely you have not updated the driver, press the Reset All button, close OCTANS and perform step 1.2, then start with step 4, if you are still sure that the driver is updated, try the following options for solving the problem Solution options : - close OCTANS, disconnect the phone from USB, and do everything from step 4, - close OCTANS, disconnect the phone from USB, take out the battery for 5 seconds and do everything from step 4, - close OCTANS, disconnect the phone from USB and insert it into another USB port on the computer, and do everything from step 4 - close OCTANS, disconnect the phone from USB, reboot the computer, and do everything from point 1.2 (since you will need to replace the driver again) - try to install driver version 4.0 instead of 5.0 - install a virtual machine with Windows XP or find a friend's computer with Windows XP *** After connecting the phone, the above-mentioned OnDeviceChange.... message did not appear, this means that most likely the phone connected to the computer with an error (it has a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager),  Solution options - pull the USB cable out of the phone for 5 seconds and insert it back, try 2-3 times if the first time did not work, do not touch OCTANS, it is in device standby mode - pull the USB cable out of the phone, remove the battery for 5 seconds and insert it back, connect the cable, do not touch OCTANS, it is in device standby mode - try to disconnect the device in the device manager (mouse right key - disconnect) and then connect (mouse right key - to use) in this case you do not need to disconnect the phone from USB, do not touch OCTANS either, it is in the device standby mode. - close OCTANS, disconnect the phone from USB, reboot the computer, and do everything from point 4 7. OCTANS DOWNLOADER In this section we will take a closer look at the settings of the program itself. #
Mode Select - you can select Normal or SMD mode, it should be Normal - normal firmware mode. In SMD mode, an additional setting SMD Binary appears, the use of which threatens to reset the IMEI number of the phone and calibration data. Eboot button - selects the bootloader, a file with the .eb0 extension. This is the most dangerous part of the firmware, since it is at this stage that in the event of any failure there is a very high probability of getting a "brick" that cannot be restored at home. If you want to insure yourself against surprises as much as possible, it is not recommended to constantly flash it, do it only when necessary - when switching from firmware based on Windows Mobile version 6.1 to firmware based on version 6.5 (or vice versa). It is also necessary to do this when updating to firmware A5 or newer from earlier firmware, while flashing it once is enough, after which you can no longer flash it with new firmware. For example, you have the I8000SERIJC firmware, it is based on WM6.5, but younger than A5, so when updating to A5 or newer JB1 is necessary BUT! eboot firmware is not necessary, if you do not do this, you will have 5 MB less RAM, because from version A5 Samsung reduced the pagepool in the firmware by 5 MB. Let's say we flashed to A5 now we want to flash to a newer one, for example JB1 in this case, there is no need to flash the bootloader. PagePool is a memory area allocated from RAM and used by the system to cache information. Roughly speaking, by increasing the PagePool size, you can achieve a faster system response to user actions. By decreasing, more memory for running applications. Eboot firmware lasts only a few seconds. The PDA button is the firmware file itself, with the nb0 extension. Almost all custom firmware is in this format. When flashing custom firmware, usually only this file is flashed, sometimes it comes with an edited CSC with specific settings for one language. When flashing with official firmware, this field is not used. MultiCSC is a container file containing settings for different countries. CSC can be simple (for one country, usually come with custom firmware) or MultiCSC (for many countries, as in official firmware). CSC file is Country Specific Config and has practically no relation to the interface language. This file contains boot screensavers for switching on, charging and firmware, settings of domestic operators, and may also contain customization files, such as animated screensavers, widgets, installation cab files, etc., in general, everything that is related to this country BUT NOT TO THE LANGUAGE. The languages themselves (language settings and MUI files) are in the main PDA firmware (nb0 or mst), they actually contain the translation of the interface. In this case, the language is installed separately in the second stage after the firmware and the first reboot, so it is important to select Russian in the Language Select field - Russian (Russia) this will provide us with a Russian interface, in the CSC File Select field you need to select I8000SERXXX.csc - the abbreviation SER corresponds to the Russian language (XXX is the firmware number), this will provide us with the correct GPRS / MMS settings for domestic operators, Russian widgets, screensavers, etc. In addition, if desired, you can, for example, select CSC for Russia and set the interface language to English or CSC for England, and select Russian as the language. If you suddenly forgot to select the correct language (Language Select) or country file (CSC File Select), then you need to re-flash only the CSC file with the correct parameters, naturally this will lead to XP. Be careful . When changing the "CSC File Select" field, the "Language Select" field will usually automatically change in accordance with the selected CSC, but not vice versa (see the decoding of the marking of language CSC files below in the firmware marking section). MoviNAND - MST firmware file, a container that contains the firmware itself and language files for all supported countries, including Russia, usually comes bundled with a CSC file, without which the "Language Select" field will not be active and you will not be able to select the desired language (nevertheless, language files from the language that was flashed last will be installed). When flashing using this file, a hidden section \basefolder is created in the phone's memory with a capacity of 512 MB (this volume is taken from 8 GB of built-in memory), cubic37.mli is written to it (it is needed to change the phone language without flashing from the phone settings) Phone - the telephone part of the firmware, an update for the GSM module, affects the quality of communication, GPS, Wi-Fi and bluetooth, you can try flashing different versions to find the best ones, the latest one is not necessarily the best for you, much depends on your operator, coverage, etc. Erase NV PDA - this option deletes some factory settings, such as the address of the bluetooth adapter and Wi-Fi module (according to unverified data, the battery calibration is also reset), the MAC address after reset is FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF. Not recommended for use! The 512MB section is a reserved hidden section \BASEFOLDER , you can get to it using, for example, Total Commander CE, for this, in the address bar, type \BASEFOLDER  in this section is the PowerDic program and the firmware image file, in fact, this file is needed only so that you can change the interface language in the future. I think that 512MB will not be superfluous, and the language is installed during the firmware, let's delete this section. If you need the PowerDic program, then copy the Programs folder from the hidden section to the microSD or to the main memory, after deleting the section, you will need to create a Basefolder folder in the main memory of the device (next to the Program Files and Windows folders) and copy this Programs folder to the newly created Basefolder folder.
